This is an exceptional wine. this Montagny Le Clou 2013 has a well defined lemon smell with a elegant richness and the poise of a wine much higher up the Burgundy price scale. Priced at £19.99 its certainly one for a special occasion.

A Domaine since the 1300s, its wines were once a direct supplier of the Pope in Avignon. Burgundy historian Claude Courtepee called it the “Volnay of the Chalonnais” and the “best of the province” over two hundred years ago.

It has been in he hands of the current owner, de du Gardin family, for over three hundred years ago. Today, it is run by dynamic young duo of Ludovic du Gardin and Fabrice Perrotto, and these lads are starting to turn some heads.

Clos Salomon, practice as natural a winemaking process as possible using almost no intervention and only the smallest amount of anti-oxidant to stop the wine re-fementing. Utterly delicious and a great example of what Burgundy can produce.

This Montagny Le Clou 2013 is aged in 20% new wood, it has great balance of weight and cut, richness with mineral tension.
